KEMPTVILLE - Long-time community leader and businessman Dermid O'Farrell has earned the Harry Pratt Ambassador of the Year award. He was honoured at the 8th Annual Economic Development Appreciation Breakfast at the North Grenville Municipal Centre on April 28th. The award is given in recognition of outstanding promotion of the North Grenville community.

"It's great to be part of the North Grenville community where my wife and I have raised our family," he said. Dermid and Donna Lee started O'Farrell Financial Services Inc. 20 years ago. They now have four offices, including Kemptville and Brockville, and employ 32 people.

"I'm appreciative of the leadership in North Grenville for the rapid growth in our municipality," Dermid said. He has served on the Economic Development Advisory Committee and believes the North Grenville BR+E Alliance has helped keep the municipality's focus on growth.

Dermid believes in giving back to the community. He is founder and chair of the Knights of Columbus Sweetheart Brunch, a 19-year-old event raising funds for local charities. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and has served on many community boards, including the Kemptville District Hospital board and its foundation, Ryan's Well Foundation as well as being a past president of the Mountain and District Lions Club.

The event themed 'Creating a Prosperous Future Together' also featured presentations by Katie Nolan, this area's Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs advisor, North Grenville CAO Brian Carré and Economic Development Officer Teri Devine as well as Tom Graham, of TD Graham and Associates marketing agency.
